Betty Williams (who is now 86 years young) bought the 106-acre Buttonwood Farm in 1968 turning the splendid property into a horse breeding facility. On the recommendation of others and with the help of her son-in-law and now winemaker Bret Davenport, Buttonwood Farm began a three-year planting process, creating the 39-acre Buttonwood Farm Vineyard. The winery concentrates on Bordeaux varietals (Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon for whites and Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon) and Rhone varietals (the white Marsanne and red Syrah), perfectly matched to the warm climate of the eastern Santa Ynez Valley climate.
